As expected, Apple finally announced the newest entries in the iPhone line, the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus on 9th September 2015.

iPhone 6s, 6s Plus Design

The iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus will also come in a new color of Rose gold, in addition to the already available standard 3 colors: space gray, white gold and silver. Also iPhone 6s models are made with a brand new Apple custom alloy, the same alloys used in the aerospace industry.

The screen size and design are maintained with 4.7 inches for the standard version and 5.5 inches for the Plus version. The only difference in the design is that the iPhone 6s goes up to 7.1 mm thick, compared to iPhone 6 which was 6.9mm thick due to the inclusion of 3D Touch.

3D Touch

The new phones incorporates the same technology that was already in the Apple Watch, called Force Touch, but is now called 3D Touch: in addition to detecting a touch, recognizes the increased pressure on the screen, which allows you to enable new forms of interaction.

The 3D Touch allows greater pressure to activate a shortcut as well (for example, in an e-mail address) that triggers a message previews push harder to get the full message, and so on. When you release the interaction is canceled.

Also, you can view recent calls with a strong pressure on the phone icon, or a view of a video as a window (instead of it full size), or switch from one application to another sliding interface to a side.

A9 Processor

Both models have a third generation 64-bit processor – A9 processor, with general improvements in performance (70% faster than the iPhone 6’s A8 processor) and its graphics. The biometric sensor is quicker to recognize fingerprints. Alongside the new A9 processor, both iPhone models will feature a brand new M9 co-processor that is always on, to help detect motion for apps like Health.

3D Touch

Apple knows that the iPhone’s camera is the most important attractions of its smartphones. That is why this time there are significant improvements in the camera. The camera, as expected, increases the resolution of a 12 megapixel (Rear camera), flash enhances and adds the ability to record video in 4K, plus bring a 5 megapixel front camera and a flash for selfies.

Apple has also introduced a new feature called Live Photos. This will shoot few extra frames of photos before and after you snap a photo, so that each of your photos have snippets of live action with just the press of a finger.

iPhone 6S & 6S Plus Features

  • “3D Touch”.
  • A9 Processor
  • A 12MP rear camera that can shoot 4K video at 30 FPS.
  • A 5MP FaceTime camera that can use the entire screen as a flash.
  • A new “Rose gold” color option.
  • A new A9 chip with improved CPU and GPU performance.
  • Faster Wi-Fi and LTE.

As regards the price of iPhone 6S and 6S Plus, they have the same who had the iPhone 6 when it went on sale a year ago: $199 for the basic iPhone 6S with 16 GB of storage; $299 for the iPhone 6S Plus with 16GB of storage (and a contract for two years). The 16GB iPhone 6S unlocked is priced at $649. There are also versions of 64 GB and 128 GB.  iOS 9 will be available on September 16, the latest version of the Apple operating system.
