Breaking Through The Google Algorithm

You Are Here

When you type some words into the Google search bar, you are rewarded with a list of sites that have something to do with the keywords that you have entered.  The more clear the keywords are, the more likely it is that you will get exactly the site, product or service that you intended, which is why Google has become the world’s most popular search engine.

For the end user, Google is a godsend, but understanding how Google works is problematic for the companies that derive their business from online sales.  The Google algorithm is private, complex and almost impossible to crack, but there are some aspects of the algorithm that companies need to understand to take advantage of everything that Google has to offer.

How are pages ranked?

This is the most common question for people who are new to internet marketing or web development, and people who have no technical knowledge of Google.  The page rankings may seem arbitrary, but they are calculated using some very complex math.

Whenever a website comes online it is indexed by Google, and over time the pages are scored based on the number of links that point back to the site and the amount of on-page keyword usage there is.

The back links are the most important part, as more than 70% of a website’s score comes from the quality back links that it has.  Once the scores are calculated, the pages are ranked, with the highest scores coming first, and so on.

Why does the ranking matter?

Ranking is everything when it comes to customers searching for information.  There is a reason there are so many AAA locksmiths, or AAAAA Bail Bondsmen; customers typically go with one of the first companies they see that can meet their needs, and they do not look any further.

If your site is buried deep down on page 10 of the search results, customers will not take the time to find your page.  Most of the time a customer will make a decision about the product or service they plan to buy before they even reach the fourth page, so it is vital that your company’s website rank highly if you plan to generate sales online.

How do you improve the ranking?

The best way to improve your website’s ranking is to use an SEO, or search engine optimization firm, to handle all of your back link creation.

The SEO company will create content on behalf of your page and post that content to various blogs and press release sites in order to make your company’s web presence stronger and more varied.  The ranking will not improve overnight, and so it is important that you prepare for several months before you see any real results from the SEO strategy.

Once the results do begin to come in, you will see a steady uptick in sales and higher revenue generated from your website because of all of the additional traffic that you site will see.

To compete with websites, your site needs to be visible, and you need to understand how pages are ranked in the Google rankings.  The higher the rank of your website, the more traffic you will see and the more money you will be able to make.
