Today Google Doodle pays tribute to artist Mary Blair on her 100th Birthday. Google is celebrating 100th Birthday of Mary Blair by replacing its traditional Google logo with a with an interactive homepage doodle in the memory of the great artist.  Mary Blair – best remembered for her work with The Walt Disney Company.

A mouse-over over the Doodle  reveals that it is meant to celebrate ‘Mary Blair’s 100th Birthday’ and on clicking will lead to a search page searching for the name of ‘Mary Blair’.

Mary Blair (October 21, 1911 – July 26, 1978), born Mary Robinson, was an American artist who was prominent in producing art and animation for The Walt Disney Company, drawing concept art for such films as Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan, Song of the South and Cinderella. Blair also created character designs for enduring attractions such as Disneyland’s It’s a Small World, the fiesta scene in El Rio del Tiempo in the Mexico pavilion in Epcot’s World Showcase, and an enormous mosaic inside Disney’s Contemporary Resort. Awards won by Mary Blair:

  • 1991:  Disney Legend award
  • 1996: Winsor McCay award from ASIFA-Hollywood

Mary Blair started at Disney around 1941 and ended it in 1953. She did concepts for many of the package films of the 40’s including Make Mine Music and Melody Time. Her most famous artwork is in Cinderella, Alice In Wonderland, and Peter Pan. She return to Disney in the early 60’s to design the ride It’s A Small World.
