Google Doodle Honors Art Clokey’s 90th Birthday

Today’s Google Doodle is a special one though. Google is celebrating 90th Birthday of Art Clokey by replacing its traditional Google logo with a with an interactive homepage doodle as with a gumby logo in the memory of the great personality.

A mouse-over over the Doodle  reveals that it is meant to celebrate ‘Arthur Art Clokey’s 90th Birthday’ and on clicking will lead to a search page searching for the name of ‘Art Clokey’.

October 12 is Art Clokey’s 90th birth anniversary. Born on October 12, 1921 Clokey’s birth name was Arthur C Farrington. Arthur “Art” Clokey (October 12, 1921 – January 8, 2010) was a pioneer in the popularization of stop motion clay animation, beginning in 1955 with a film experiment called Gumbasia, influenced by his professor, Slavko Vorkapich, at the University of Southern California.

Today’s Google doodle features some of Art Clokey’s most famous characters including Gumby (the original clayboy), Pokey , the Blockheads , Tara and Prickle.
