The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has announced a critical deadline for Aadhaar cardholders. The window to update Aadhaar details online for free closes tomorrow, Saturday, 14 December. If you need to change your address or other details, now is the time to act!
Why Is This Important?
Keeping your Aadhaar information up-to-date ensures smoother service delivery and accurate Aadhaar-based authentication. UIDAI recommends updating your details every 10 years to maintain accuracy.
What Happens After the Deadline?
From 15 December 2024, you’ll no longer be able to update your Aadhaar online for free. Updates will still be possible at Aadhaar enrolment centres, but a fee will apply for every update request. Save time and money by completing your updates online before the deadline!
How to Update Aadhaar Online for Free
It’s quick and simple to update your Aadhaar details online. Follow these steps:
- Go to the Portal: Visit myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in.
- Log In: Enter your Aadhaar number and the captcha code, then click ‘Send OTP.’ Use the OTP sent to your registered phone to log in.
- Select Update Option: Choose ‘Document Update’ from the menu.
- Read the Guidelines: Carefully go through the instructions and click ‘Next.’
- Verify Details: Confirm that your current details are correct by checking the provided box.
- Upload Documents: Upload valid Proof of Identity and Proof of Address documents.
- Submit Your Request: Once done, click ‘Submit.’ You’ll receive a Service Request Number (SRN) to track the status of your request.
Prefer Offline Updates? Visit a Centre Near You
If online updates aren’t convenient, you can still update your Aadhaar offline. Locate the nearest Aadhaar enrolment centre using the ‘Centres Nearby’ tool on the Bhuvan Aadhaar Portal or search by PIN code. Remember, offline updates come with a fee.
Limitations of the mAadhaar App
For now, the mAadhaar app only supports address updates through document uploads. If you need to update other details like your name, date of birth, or mobile number, you’ll need to use the online portal or visit a centre. UIDAI may introduce more features in the future, so stay tuned!
Don’t Wait – Update Today!
Avoid the rush and potential fees by updating your Aadhaar details now. Whether online or offline, keeping your Aadhaar current helps ensure you continue to access essential services without interruptions.
