The Smartphone: Making Your Life Easier

You Are Here

The Smartphone is one of those gadgets that somehow sounds too good to be true, but lucky for you, that’s not the case. There are a variety of tools and applications available on the Smart Phone designed with making your life easier in mind.

There are even a few that you’ve probably never even heard of. Depending on which particular Smartphone you own, there are tons of apps that you can use to simplify your life.

Lost Your Remote? No Problem

If you’re like me, you’ve spent countless hours flipping over couch cushions, feeling underneath tables, and even checking the fridge at some point for the elusive lost remote. This is where the Smartphone can swoop in and save the day, or at least keep you from running back and forth between the TV and the couch changing channels.

Samsung WatchON

If you have a Smartphone that’s equipped with an infrared blaster, you can use it to control any device that will respond to an infrared signal. For example, on the Samsung Galaxy S4, the app is called “WatchON,” and you can use it to easily program your phone to control your TV. Even if you can’t find that particular app, Google Play has a ton of apps just like it to download to your phone, so you can still enjoy a remote free existence.

Name That Tune!

So you’re walking along listening to that great new song called…? Honestly, you have no clue right? That’s where the Smartphone comes in. If your phone isn’t already equipped with song identification app, you can visit Google Play and download an app called “Sound Search.”

Sound search

It creates a widget on your phone’s home screen that you simply tap to get the information you’re look for while the song is playing. If there’s an app like this already built into your phone, like Windows 8 from Microsoft, it works exactly the same way, just tap and go.

Hang Your Pictures with Ease

You may have a hammer at home, possibly even a screwdriver or two, but who has a level handy when they need one? Once again the Smartphone has the answer.

Most Smartphones come equipped with an accelerometer. That’s the thing that lets it know when it’s suppose to auto rotate when you turn your phone. This handy feature can also turn your phone into a spirit level. If you have the iOS 7, the app is already built in, but users of the BlackBerry and Android can easily download it.

On the iOS 7, simply launch the compass app (yes, there’s a compass app on your phone as well) and swipe across to the second screen. Now you’re ready to hang pictures, build bookcases, or do anything else that requires a level.

It’s Not Over Yet

There are so many built in uses and apps available for the Smartphone that you’d be hard pressed to use them all. As shown here, it can control other devices, identify music, and even help you build things if that’s what you wish. You can even find your way out of the woods with this phone!

Remember, there’s a compass. You can even do more mundane tasks like surf the web and watch movies, but who has time for that when the Smartphone can offer you so much more?

There’s no end to what this mini computer can do. So, if you DON’T have one, what are you waiting for? Go out and grab it. If you DO have one, what are you waiting for? Explore, explore, explore! Discover just what the Smartphone can do for you.
