I just logged in to my Gmail account and noticed a popup highlighting a new feature ‘Free SMS in Gmail‘. Well, that’s true, now you can send Text Messages Free from your own Gmail account for Free!

Gmail is one of the best service by Google, which always adds new features to make it better than anyone else. With this Free SMS in Gmail service you can chat with your friends even if they are offline.

How Free SMS in Gmail service Works ?

You can use Gmail Chat to send SMS and then responses will appear as a reply in Chat. And all conversations will be stored in your Chat history, just like regular chats.

1. Type the phone number you want to send an SMS to and click on Send SMS.

2. Add the SMS recipient’s name and country, then click Save

3. Write in your text message in the chat window

4. Simply press Enter to send Free SMS in Gmail.

That’s it. SMS Sent. You can check the Supported mobile operators list here. And the best thing is that, Gmail’s official list now include India with following carriers supported:

Aircel
IDEA
Loop Mobile
MTS
Reliance
Tata DoCoMo
Tata indicom
Vodafone (Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Gujarat, A.P, Bihar, W.B. & A & N, Assam, N.E.)

Note that, Google offers a limit of 50 SMS per day. But If you receive a response to your SMS, it adds 5 more SMS to your daily quota. You can send and receive SMS or Text messages from Gmail to any phone is completely free. But if you reply with an SMS from your phone to Gmail, you will be charged as standard SMS rate by your carrier.
